Passion & Commitment

We recently helped a customer from Luxembourg who showed us his tattoo of a pair of eyeglasses on his arm. which gave me an idea to do a series of eyeglass & sunglass tattoos. I could not think of a more perfect way to start the series then by featuring my business partner and great friend Jordan Silver. He is such a Persol fanatic that he has the “Supreme Arrow” tattooed on his wrist. If you or someone you know has a tattoo that features eyeglasses or sunglasses please email us pix or stop by the shop.

Reduce Reuse Recycle

Wearing vintage sunglasses is a small way of doing your part, right?  The vintage frames we sell were all in storage for years in various places around the world.  We’re bringing to the market frames that were hard to find for years.

I particularly love these vintage aluminum frames.  They are light weight and colorful.  Wear vintage–be green.

Join the Convoy–or rather Caravan

Ray-Ban’s Caravan has been one of the most successful and often copied designs in the history of sunglasses.  Produced consistently since the 1960s, this squared off aviator is a staple of any collectors inventory.  Once Ray-Ban was sold by Bausch & Lomb to Luxottica in 1993 the production changed for the brand.  So if you’re looking for an original Caravan with the Bausch & Lomb etched lenses join the caravan down to Thompson Street.  Or for those of you further away, the caravan extends to the digital age and can be bought online at Refinery29Shops.

Missing Cartier

These Cartier Santos frames from the mid 1980s are extremely hard to find. When I saw Tiffany walking to work in Soho wearing them, I had to ask where she found them.

Anyone missing a pair from a nameless department store dressing room on Madison Avenue should contact Tiffany.

Michael Cain Eyeglass Icon

The immortal Harry Palmer makes his entrance, in The Ipcress Files (1965). Oliver Goldsmith was the maker of the glasses for Michael Cains character. The frame is currently in production (model Renzo) available at Silver Lining.

Heavy Metals

In all my vintage collecting, I have until recently, disregarded the small metal sunglass look.  I think its time for a change in my style.   Lately I’ve been hording these frames.  I especially like the ones produced by Bausch & Lomb for Ray-Ban in the 1980s.  While even then these were an ‘old fashioned’ style, they keep reappearing and have a timelessness that is something we value immensely at Silver Lining.

What I like most about these styles are the intricacies that each frame has.  The lens shapes vary, the filigree  on the eyewears are so delicate, and the lenses themselves can be tinted different shades for totally different looks.  Come by and check out our Ray-Bans and early 20th Century pieces.
