Here’s to you, son.

Father of Julia and Vladimir raising a glass to his son’s art opening last week. I love the tint on his lenses. 25% brown, but with an anti-glare coating.

In the country of Myanmar (Burma) there is a white faced Buddha statue that wears a large set of gold plated eyeglasses. The Buddha is believed to be capable of curing afflictions of the eyes. It takes nine monks to remove the glasses for their fortnightly cleaning. We carry a similar style that should only take one monk to clean.

We missed Kanye at the Band of Outsiders presentation last week. We had to go open up the shop. Oh the pains of retailing. Anyhow, it appears that Mr. West inserted himself seamlessly into the sets of models. He even blogged about it on his own blog.

Johnny Depp is famous for his youthful appearence and slim physique. Reports in the Japanese media are that he may owe his slim physique to blue tinted lenses. Blue eyeglass lenses are believed to cause an appetite suppressant effect. It is also believed that blue light causes an increase in Serotonin. In 2005 the city of Glasgow, Scotland changed their orangish street lights to bluish street lights and people became noticeably mellower and the citys crime rate dropped. Does Johnny know something we don’t?

Irving Paul “Swifty” Lazar was a legendary talent agent and deal maker who handled some of the most famous movie stars and authors. Cary Grant, Lauren Bacall, Gregory Peck, Truman Capote, Ernest Hemingway, and Tennessee Williams were just some of his clients. He was given the name “Swifty” by Humphrey Bogart after putting together three major deals for Mr. Bogart in a single day. Is it possible the secret to his skill was the enormous glasses he wore? Come find out for yourself.

Mr. Jacobs may have cut his guest list in half and canceled the afterparty, but he sure pulled off a new trick on the runway this week. I’ve been staring at it for a while now, but I still can’t be sure what makes up this eyewear look. My best guess is that there are some small wire sunglasses covered by a flat semi-trasparent sheet that has a linear pattern in it. Would someone care to clarify for us?

Silver Lining friend, Mordechai Rubenstein has taken on yet another great project, docmenting mens style at NY fashion week. We ran into eachother at Band of Outsiders, and we are pleased to see his column on Paper Magazine’s Word Up, Tents & Gents available here. His blog, Mister Mort is a must read too.
The gent above is wearing some glasses very similar to the Kame ManNen plastics line carried at Silver Lining Opticians.

Silver Lining pays homage to the Inuit of the Arctic inventors of the first sunglasses known to man. They were made of Walrus ivory with slits to protect the eyes from snowblindness in the spring. The oldest pair dated 1200 AD are currently in the collection of the Canadian Museum of Civilization.

We always get asked about the frames Michael Cain wore. Here is the closest We’ve found. The Kingston by Dita available in 2 sizes.
