Framed designer and friend: Alex Cardenas
Congratulations to Alex who recently showed at Art Basel 2009. Check out his work here. I knew we’d be friends as soon as I learned he likes vintage Persol almost as much as I do.

The Insider profiles emerging tastemakers in the fields of fashion, design, food, travel and the arts. Here, the artist and designer Alejandro Cardenas shares his essentials. Cardenas is the art director at Proenza Schouler, where he also designs the prints and eyewear. Aside from his 9-to-5, Cardenas is represented by James Fuentes Gallery (he had a solo show there, “Arctic Cross,” in October). A new exhibit of his drawings will be shown as part of LISTE: The Young Art Fair in Basel from June 9 to 14.
Name: Alejandro Cardenas
Age: 31
Occupation: Artist and designer
Home base: Dumbo, Brooklyn
Retail standby: Polo, A.P.C., J. Crew and Silver Lining Opticians for all things eyewear-related. I know: not at all what you’d expect from a young man working in the arts in New York.
