“The Wackness”

I saw The Wackness over the weekend and loved it.

Destined to be a coming of age classic, the story takes place on the streets of Manhattan in 1994.

What does this have to do with the sunglass world? Well, I’ll tell you. In the early 1990s the American classic Ray-Ban was bought by giant Luxottica and changed forever–kinda like the streets of NY under Giuliani.

This movie features Ray-Bans both on Josh Peck and Ben Kingsley, pre-Luxottica Ray-Bans that is.

The best lens optics in New York

Not a boastful claim but fact. Today the world is digital. It is high definition. Silver Lining understands this and offers digitally surfaced (computer engineered) lenses made on state of the art machinery. Almost all other eyeglass stores are making your lenses the old-fashioned way using mass produced lens blanks and cutting those lenses on old lens edging machines.

Digitally Surfaced High Index Lens

Frame: Hamburg Jan 14

Put simply digitally surfaced lenses provide sharper vision (accurate to .01 diopters). This has been the standard in Japan for the past few years and recently used by select opticians in Europe. If you want a sharper progressive with less distortion or a wrap frame for a strong prescription visit us because seeing is believing.

The Ratti Factory

Persol is probably my favorite brand.  They have such a rich history and an almost cult like following from celebrities to biker gangs to hip hopers.  Easily recognized by the ’supreme arrows’ at the hinges on each pair, Persol has branded itself quite uniquely.  The Persol history as an independent brand manufactured in the Ratti factory in Torino came to an abrupt halt in the early nineties when they were bought out by Luxottica.

At Silver Lining Opticians we only feature unused vintage Persols from the original Ratti Factory.  Our selection changes often so come frequently and find the perfect pair for yourself.

be Kanye

Aside from being ridiculously funny, I love the shape Kanye is wearing in this video.

The large round shape with temples coming out toward the top of the frame is often thought of as only a female shape, but he rocks it with style.

We have lots of vintage styles similar to this.  A new shipment of vintage Maui Jim’s are available in the shop and soon to be available on r29shops.
