Most sunglass fans know the Persol 649 as the frame made famous by Steve McQueen both on film and in real life. The 649 was produced at different times throughout Persol’s history both before and after selling to Luxottica. This frame is definitely one of the most famous Persols ever made.
Allow us to introduce you to the Persol Ratti 049. This model differs only slightly from the 649, but it offers the wearer an alternative to the more popular 649. The 049 features thinner temples, a thinner frame front, and no supreme arrow or meflecto system. This is a very elegant simple model. All of the 049 models that we have currently at Silver Lining Opticians include Persol-Matic lenses which are glass photochromatic lenses. Really the best!
It seems that recreating the Rachel Zoe look as cheaply as possible is the go to Halloween costume this year. Huffington Post is able to do it for under $90 bucks. Refinery29 posted this picture of Rachel and it got us thinking about what we could add. We thing the best choice are these vintage Dior frames fitted with a light brown gradient lens.

On our most recent buying trip we added over 50 Bausch & Lomb made Ray-Bans to the collection. Two of which that you won’t be seeing on the sales floor are the “General” Aviators. I think we’ll be keeping these in the vault. In 1987, in honor of their 50th Anniversary, Ray-Ban released a line of Aviators insipired by the early Ray-Ban fanatic, General MacArthur. These frames are 24 karat gold plated and feature the RB-50 Diamond Hard Coat lens.
Swing by to check out the Ray-Ban Leathers, Ambermatics, Tortugas, and other amazing styles. They won’t be here for long!
An agreement has been reached between Senators Obama and McCain in their race for the White House. While little coverage has been given by the national press, both candidates have put their full endorsements behind Glasses 2008. While stylistic nuances separate the competing candidates there support is said to be a sign of bi-partisan unity. This is spectacular news here at Glasses 2008 campaign headquarters. Please stop by the shop to help us celebrate.
Losing the ability to read (Presbyopia) happens to all of us at a certain age. Recently we had the honor of helping academy award winner Mr. Daniel Day-Lewis find his first real pair of reading glasses. His dedication to his art and disdain for all that is commercial makes him a shining example of our core values. At Silver Lining Opticians “There will be glasses”
